I remember a while ago seeing Stephen Fry interviewed, and he was talking about how his nephew used the word ‘book’ to mean ‘cool’, precisely because they are created from the same keystrokes on a mobile phone. Presumably, he and his mates got so many messages accidentally saying things were ‘really book’, that that gradually became the ‘in’ word to use. Or should that be the ‘go’ word?

mewithoutYou - Ten Stories: The Glossary

ohdoubters:

The new album from mewithoutYou, entitled Ten Stories, is a concept album about a circus train crash and the dark and philosophical adventures of the animals that escape (or don’t) in the aftermath.  Aaron Weiss uses typically detailed and mysterious lyricism, and thus I thought a glossary for the phrases and names of plants and animals and even fabrics that he throws at you might be valuable.  This is best used when listening to the album and reading along in the lyrics booklet.

Good grief, you’re brilliant! :) Thank you!!!

These two TEDtalks may change your life. Together, they gave me a sense of liberation combined with responsibility, with lots to chew on.
Stream them, download them, just turn on the video and listen to the audio while you drive (that’s what I did). I’ve benefited so much from them. :)

I’m really excited to read this #OCD book. I think I’ll benefit from concrete techniques for changing how I process thoughts. Some aspects of my life, I…well, I’ve retyped this over and over trying to understand how to articulate how it works in my mind…some aspects I grip too tightly with the obsessive function of my mind, and I need to be loosened and freed in those areas. It’s been pretty good for a long time, but there are still things I want to improve. Thus, the book in the photo!

From the Vancouver Aquarium

Sea otters usually prey on hard-shelled food — clams, abalones, mussels, crabs… If they’re too hard to crack with their teeth, they’ll smash them open with, or against, a rock.

This is what this sea otter (Elfin) is doing when he bashes the ice against the rock. He’s after the hidden gems of food frozen within the ice.

The Aquarium’s marine mammal trainers freeze seafood in chunks of ice and give them to the sea otters to play with, so they have a variety of ways to get their food — and it’s just plain fun.

Previously from the Vancouver Aquarium, Baby Octopuses! And of course, YouTube stars Milo and (Exxon Valdez Oil spill survivor) Nyac from Otters Holding Hands!

Otters are my favorite

Even if your kid has seen this on the interwebs or tv already, they might want to see it again. This Beluga Whale is named Juno and lives at the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. And yes, Juno likes mariachi music.

Thanks, Jenni.

I nearly expected the beluga whale to start clapping at the end. I don’t think I would have been surprised; watch this to feel a little closer to the animal kingdom.
